A tool to find how much is spent on ESA-listed species, and where.
Implementing the Endangered Species Act–conservation in general–takes money. We compiled expenditure reports from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from 2008 through 2013, combined species expenditures data with spatial data, and mapped where the spending has occurred*. We also are able to tally spending across taxonomic groups, through time, and so-forth.
RESTRICTED Accessing this app requires a login because this research is in-process. (We are expanding the data to 2004-2015, and modeling the expenditures “system” as part of the project.) Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to work with us!
* We estimate where the spending occurred, assuming spending on each species was split equally among the counties in which each species occurs.
