Compare state endangered species laws to the federal ESA.
Ever wonder how state endangered species laws stack up against the U.S. Endangered Species Act? Researchers at the Center for Land, Environment, and Natural Resources (CLEANR) at the University of California, Irvine examined the question in detail, and we collaborated with them to make the data searchable and viewable. This app accompanies their report, The Limitations of State Laws and Resources for Endangered Species Protections. Please see that report for details on how the data was collected and general conclusions. (For comparison to these results, see Goble and colleagues’ 1999 paper that used the same methods.)
Select components of endangered species laws using the check boxes and the map of state scores will automatically update. You may also search, filter, and sort the raw data under the “Data” tab. More information about the scoring is available under the “Details” tab. The app is embedded below, but is easier to use at its home page.Favorite
